Weekend Reflection

President’s Day has come and gone and I find myself back in the office.   Having a 3 day weekend helped me come to some very real life conclusions that I want to share with you all! This may not add any value to your day but at least you will know all about my weekend!

Include Monday in the weekend – I whole-heartedly believe that Monday should be permanently included in the weekend.  Having that extra weekend day would do wonders for the work force.  For people like me who are over scheduled and constantly busy weekends can become errand days and extra workdays.  Sunday may be my day of rest but Monday should be my day of relaxation!  And relax I did watching movies, and chillin on the couch.  I could get used to this…Free Mondays!!!!!

Nothing ventured nothing gained – I had a great talk with a good friend this weekend who was seeking advice. I realized that fear can hold us back from so many decisions and I encouraged him to take a risk. Ultimately, I was reminded that you never know if you don’t try and that old sayings may have some value.  I also learned that I'm quite content not dating in today’s technological world.

Cleanses make you miserable and hungry –aside from setting you up for failure, abstaining for food by choice is the dumbest thing I have ever done in my life. I didn’t last very long before having to alter my plan. My body and spirit were in a not so great place (headaches, mood swings, crazy eyes).  So now that we are on day 7 the plan is to cleanse 90% of the day and to have at least one small meal of veggies and semi-solid foods.   It is best for everyone this way, especially the people closest to me (I’m sorry for any property damage or violence).

Hotels have airport prices – we stayed at a JW Marriot this weekend and I learned a valuable lesson about outrageous pricing. I get that my peers steal soap, shampoo, and other hotel swag, but let’s not punish all for the actions of a few.  You charge me to park, you charge me to eat, and you charge me for perks.  I accept that. What I do not accept is how you can charge $17.99 to watch a movie on my room TV. It would cost me less to go to a movie theater… seriously hotels?!   I'm not a reality TV star, I am a regular person and that is just unaffordable. Other than not watching any movies on my fancy TV, the stay was wonderful and I highly recommend the JW Marriot (Buckhead) the staff is great and the rooms are very nice!

Prepare for anything financially – over the weekend I received news that two people I know had lost their jobs.  This confirmed the importance of sound financial planning. You never know what is going to happen in this economy people.  Save up extra rent and extra funds to cover your bills.  I don’t have kids I can’t return, I don’t live beyond my means, I have a retirement plan, and I try to save more than I spend.  Financial insufficiency is a solid fear of mine so I’m probably overly cautious but I’m ok with that.

Beyoncé – I had a girl’s night this weekend and watched the Beyoncé special on HBO. It reminded me that I was unable to get tickets to her show (it sold out in a blink). I didn’t really learn too much other than she really loves to put her face right in the camera. It was a great look at some of her performances, as far as insight into her thoughts and life, yeah not so much.   Maybe if I wasn’t abstaining from wine I would have enjoyed it more. Disappointed!

A life of crime is for criminals – I am not built for a life of crime people. I already knew this before the weekend. But after some conversations this weekend I realized that true crime lords are good at what they do because they are made to do it.  Stupid criminals and up standing citizens don’t have the heart or moral liberty to be successful at committing crimes, which is how it should be!  I will just follow the speed limit, earn money the honest way (a job that takes all my income in taxes), not murder people, not popping mollies (wooo, I hate sweating), not harboring fugitives, and just sticking to the general letter of the law!  I’m happy being a law abiding citizen!

New Show Alert- House of Cards is the new show in my life! It shows us why Scandal needs to exist.  This show gives you a gritty look into the twisted mind of a politician and how the world works in DC. It delivers compelling storylines and remarkable performances by its cast! Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright (formerly Penn) remind me why I love television and film.  Check out the show on Netflix if you are looking for something new to watch!  I can’t wait for the next season…seriously!

OK that about sums up my weekend.  I hope you all had fun, now it is back to reality.

Bad Feeling

Do you ever wake up and have the feeling that somebody is going to break into your house and steal everything you own. Well me either, until today! For some reason I woke up with an ominous feeling.  It could have been the rain. It could have been the fact that on my way to grab my breakfast I spilled something on my dress (I didn’t care enough to change by the way).  It could be that I live near a shadier group of residents and juvenile delinquents.  It could have also been sleep deprivation but either way I just had a bad feeling.

The kind of feeling that prompted me to hide my diamonds and take pictures of my major electronics, all before walking out the door.  So now I have a blackberry full of photos and a ton of questions.
Priority question:  What is this feeling?
Secondary question:  Why I thought taking pictures of my stuff would make me feel better?
Tertiary Question:  Where is my tide pen?

Have you ever acted on your instinct then wondered what the action would accomplish or why? I do it more than I would like to admit taking a different route home from various locations, following my gut and buying those chocolate brownies (don’t judge I get hungry), not accepting facebook friend requests, avoiding craigslist (at all costs), not dating certain people (that was back in my single days), offering my friends alcohol to see if they are pregnant. Sometimes you just think something is up and you do things to test your theory.

I’m a firm believer in intuition. No I don’t logically think somebody is going to break into my house today. I recognize that was a bit ridiculous but I’m a bit ridiculous so I accept that. Why did I question safety this morning, we may never know. But do I follow my gut, hell yes!  It has only let me down twice and that was mainly because of lust or my personal decision to ignore it! I suffered the consequences for that and now I know better. Other than those two incidences, my gut has helped me make very good life decisions about work, friends, finances, and relationships.

The Man of Steel (this is how I will forever refer to my Fiancé  via blog because he is awesome and a Steelers fan) says I think the best of people. He is so very right; I use my gut to assess people. If I can connect with them and my spirit gives an initial ok then I roll with it.  My gut helps me determine how to categorize friends, how to participate in situations, and what decisions I can feel comfortable with making. I do wish my gut helped me pick restaurants, that is one choice I avoid making at all costs. I will also point out that my gut is easily distracted by food and snacks so sometimes it takes a minute to figure people and things out.

In the end everything works out.  Whatever is going down today I’m ready for you and if somebody does happen to break into my apartment I have renters insurance so I’m not too worried. I also know karma will haunt you Paranormal Activity style so I wish you luck.

Scandal Life Lessons

I love me some Scandal and it will be a rare occurrence for me to discuss it in my blog but after watching last night’s episode I had some thoughts I needed to share! This show is more than just entertainment, it is educational.

·         Dating married men is wrong. We all know this but it does make for good TV. To all the homewreckers and side chicks out there don’t make lustfully bad decisions.  Karma is real and the devil can actually be in people (I mean you Millie). We learned a valuable lesson last night and that is the wife is still winning (even when she is wrong wrong wrong).
·         Killing your spouse is never the answer and gay marriage should be covered under spousal privilege!
·         We are all just babies to Mother White America (this society we live in is still minority, majority) –much like Cyrus and James adopted a little black baby we are all at the mercy of the majority. Not a fan of this fact but on a record breaking show with a black leading lady she is still losing to the white man’s world.
·         Political Animals! Politics has a sliding scale of morality and ethics. We all know it but the one thing that seems to continuously ring true is the addiction to power.  We need an intervention people!
·         Gladiators don’t have feelings.  Sometimes being a warrior requires sacrifice and you have to put your feelings aside and handle business.
·         If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck it’s probably a horse. A Trojan horse that is; I felt a little bamboozled by all the twists and turns last night. The most valuable thing learned is that people aren’t always who they say they are.  Also people have limits, push them too far and they become killers.

Aside from all those life lessons, I’m debating whether I need to bring back What If Friday. I'm on the fence so we shall see how next week shapes up.

I hope everybody has a great Friday!  I am going to live above the influence! For those that aren’t aware, I'm not referring to drugs; I'm speaking on the temptation to slap people in the face and other inappropriate actions!
