Medicated Vampire Dreams

It never fails that when I am on medication of any kind outside the scope of my regularly prescribed migraine of GI meds I have they CRAZIEST dreams!  I really need to start a medicine dream journal. I mentioned last week that I've  been sick and the docs prescribed me ear drops for an infection and a coughing syrup “sleep aid” for my disgustingly bad non-smokers cough.

Aside from keeping me awake (as opposed to helping me sleep) the medication is giving me some crazy syfy dreams.  I am just going to give you a taste of the mini movie I endured last night. Yes I wrote it like a script and yes I know lichens are from Underworld (don’t judge me damnit)!

FADE IN:
INT. Downtown Louisiana
 (LC Bad ass vampire)
Louisiana Urban Jungle overrun by Swamps (organic plant life) in the year 2055.  Scene opens on a young African American vampire looking out the window of an abandoned office building at a swarm of vampire zombies eating the flesh of a newly turned decoy.

LC V.O. (voice over)
Look at them…vultures preying on the weak. When did my people become cannibals? How can one virus undo an entire species this way? I have got to find Remy and Ash, but how will I get back to the safe zone without being detected (PAUSE)
I will have to travel during daylight hours. It is the only way.

As the sun rise peaks through the buildings the zombie vampires scatter like cockroaches. Our protagonist makes her move, cloaked in curtains and covered from head to spiked boot toes.
CUT OUT

INT. Hospital Setting
(LC Bad ass vampire)
Open on dusk our protagonist has found a blood bank and is trying to stock up for travel. Humans have all been captured for breeding, said for a few pockets of rebel fighters. Raiding blood banks is the easiest way to avoid viral infection and the risk of a live feed calling the attention of zombie vamps. LC hides under some weeping willows on what used to be a back street that is now over run by river waters. A pack of 3 zombies is up ahead feeding on what appears to be humans (most likely a vampire kill gone wrong). The trio is in tattered clothes and carriers the virus mark (blotchy decaying hives covering their entire body). So occupied with the fresh meat they don’t even see HER turn down the alley.

LC
(WHISPER) Tthey are starting to expand their hunting zones; I have to cover more ground during the day. I’m going to need a boat. (HEARING a branch break in the wooded area to her left)
Get to higher ground LC. (Scaling a tree with speed and ease like a cat; she hits the tree tops to get a better view)

LC V.O.
(PANIC) Shit it’s Lichen

Lichens are animalistic breed of shape shifting vampire that hunts everything including the zombie vamps. They live in the wilderness and are the ultimate predators, vicious and merciless. I haven’t fed so I can’t take this one on and survive.
LC V.O. CONT
I have to hope it doesn’t see me. I should climb down and try to hide in the water, that’s my best bet.

FADE TO NEXT SCENE

Lying in wait under the surface of the water as the current sends leaves floating by; she turns her head and just as the lichen spots her.

LC V.O. CONT
Ruuuuuunnnnnnn!!!!

SHE Flies out of the water as the Lichen begins pursuit, Swinging through tree branches trying to out run the hunter.  After a  mile she sees an end to the tree line and realizes she has to double back. Switching directions the Lichen continues to stay on her trail. She sees the zombie vamps finishing their kill and decides to use them as decoys.

LC
(CALLING out to the Zombie vamps) HEY!!! Hey… fresh meat over here.

They aLL turn and see her; the Lichen pauses to assess the situation.

(Speaking to the Lichen) You have plenty of options here; you don’t want to eat me. See fresh blood, fresh kill… go play with your food.

The Lichen moves toward the zombie vampires and attacks

LC V.O.
Now or never! R-u-n east, put some distance between you and the lichen before it gets bored with the easy meal. Stay in the urban jungle out of the woods, until you know it’s safe.

CUT OUT

Worst Week Ever (2013 Edition)

I have been rather quiet this week on the blog front because I have been sick as a dog since last Friday. My body decided it wanted to make friends with illness and they have been shacking up ever since.  A lot has happened in the course of a week (including the fact that I am still sick).   I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on the worst week ever of 2013!

Boston - The Boston Bombing and the subsequent loss of life since it occurred are tragic and sad.  It is unfortunate that people feel the need to make statements by taking lives. Bombing a major event then going on a bomb throwing, shoot out, killing spree is cowardly and uncalled for!  What else is uncalled for is the level of extreme news coverage this is getting. The news was showing body parts and bloody victims on TV; shame on you news media for making this a spectator sport.  I am praying for the victims and the perpetrators (mainly because this manhunt is going to end in your death – Bostonians don’t play that – they shut down the city to look for you)

Texas – the fertilizer plant that exploded in flames on Wednesday is another tragedy and my hearts go out to the families of the victims.  It is just sad when things like this happen, especially in small towns. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Texas.

Ricin – Dear people of Mississippi get your crazies under control (as a lady born in Biloxi, MS I can say that). Why is it that after major tragedies (like Boston) people feel necessary to stir the pot?  Just stop! Furthermore why do crazy people get the full name reference, is this the public’s way of doing what every black mom in America does when their kid is making trouble…”Paul Kevin Curtis, if you send ricin to people you are going to federal jail – don’t make me pull off my belt”.
For information about this chemical agent visit http://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/ricin/

Flood waters - Record-setting rains in the Midwest are giving Mother Nature the award for “Most Likely to Ruin Travel Plans”. Who knows what she will do but I hear they are evacuating folks and suspended travel. Illinois is getting hit hard, so to my friends up that way be safe.

Gun laws – the debate rages on…no comment.

Illness – I am still sick! Doctors just put me on ear drops, cough medicine and antibiotics. This walking petri dish pushes forward.   I am never to sick to remember - RIP Grandpa (Love you and miss you always).

Have a great weekend friends…the worst week ever is hopefully coming to an end.

5 minute 5 {Random Quickie}

These are some random thoughts for the day in no particular order with no particular logic:
  1.  Ratchet Monday has been reinstated and I am excited. It is a brief moment in time where I indulge in the guilty pleasure of terrible reality TV and reflect on how much better my life really is compared to the tomfoolery I see on TV. Thank you VH1 for the perspective, my wine is already in my hand!
  2. I am a fan of this new format of sharing a few of my prominent thoughts in brief.  Flash Gordon move over you are being replaced by a bad ass, super speedy, typing machine (aka a computer). I am fighting evil with random thoughts!
  3. If you want something done (not even just done right) sometimes you have to do it yourself!!!  Or so says my inner control freak.
  4. Does Smart Water make me smarter? I secretly (well publicly now) believe it does. I also don’t care what people say, it does have a taste and it is better than all the other waters I drink.  I heart you Smart Water and if people want to gift it to me just because I support that!
  5. How would our lives be different if Pinky and the Brain really did take over the world (it would probably ruin your day North Korea)? Genetically enhanced lab mice/ dictators probably don’t condone unapproved missile launches.  However, I suspect there would be a great deal of rioting in the streets and fighting over cheese rations; plus we would all be animated.  I really miss that show.

Have a great afternoon folks!  Special prayers to all the peeps recovering from health issues, injuries, and all things medically related. Get well soon and start your plot for World Domination!

A Pinky and the Brain Future!

Friday…Saturday…Funday

Another Friday is here! I am excited about this weekend people!  Not just because I won’t be at work which is always a reason to celebrate…I’m excited because the current plan is to attend the NCAA Big Dance Concert Series. I’m sure it will be a great set of games (I know some Michigan and Syracuse fans, plus Louisville has the media interest story) but I’m looking forward to the musical chaos folks! Drinking beer, walking around Centennial Park, and doing what carefree people do.  You are welcome to join me (it is free)!  Check out the Atlanta Music Guide for a list of performers.

*And just for you +Ashley Norris  Go Big Blue!

Other than that, this weekend will involve hiking up Stone Mountain, sleeping, cleaning my kitchen, organizing and boxing up craft supplies, catching up on my DVR, house hunting, lounging around in cropped sweat pants, eating popcorn, and any additional spring cleaning that I can think of. Nothing earth shaking or mind blowing just easy, breezy and beautiful.

I also realized that spring break is next week for my local counties so it will be a quiet work week after a chill weekend.  SWEET!!!!  I just want to thank the breeders and school systems in advance for making it easier for me to park on the first floor of the deck on Monday! Enjoy your family time.

In more recent news, I just tried the GoGo Squeeze apple mango applesauce and I love it.  People with kids you should make them try it!  I’m serious, it is delicious “no spoon, no mess” kind of fun!

I hope you all have a great and funtastic weekend!

10 minute 10 {Break Thoughts}

Getting up this morning was difficult; the rain makes you want to curl up in the bed and eat snack foods while you watch Netflix.  But I have started my day and after about 1 hour in the full swing of work, I took a break.  I had a ton of ideas bouncing around (as always) so in true random style here are 10 thoughts I’m currently having:
  1. I have no idea what my website looks like. Working on a new business website and I have been soooo caught up in my blog that I haven’t checked in with my web developer. PAUSE   Text message has been sent.  In other news, my blog site is just the way I like it; slaving over hours of template changes, widgets, and gadget making, I finally got it there. Managing two blogs isn’t as bad as I thought it would be I just need to fight the urge to sleep. Soon Random Ramblings is getting a facelift, since I have mastered the art of html coding with eblogger I might as well!  Check out my progress at Cordier Event Planning Blog
  2. It is already April! I can’t believe how quickly time is passing! It will be my birthday before I know it! I have soooo much to do this month and next. I will try to refrain from taking on any more projects…I swear! Baby shower and dinner party are keeping my focus for now.
  3. I am literally counting down the days and hours until I can get a new cellphone (25 days 14 hours)!!!! I am pretty sure I am getting a Galaxy (about 98% sure) I’m just deciding if I want to wait for the new Galaxy S4. It may push back my wait time and I’m not sure I can handle any extra blackberry time right now.
  4. My friends stay sick and I don’t like it. Injuries, hospitalizations, and influenza (Oh my).  I need everybody to heal up, rest up, and get better I don’t like it when you guys are sick.
  5. I found a card-reader that works! Shout out to Best Buy for helping me fix what Target ruined.  Now that I have a working card reader my photos from my new Nikon camera will grace computer screens everywhere!!! This reminds me I need to send my family the pictures from this weekend. I’m going to make a photo album and it will be great!
  6. Just in case you were going to ask, no we haven’t set a wedding date yet. Get off my ovaries people; it will get here when it gets here. We might do like the 5 yr engagement (minus the breaking up, cheating, and living in the cold). Besides we have things to do and money to save, weddings cost money, not the monopoly kind. We are accepting donations for wedding expenses; feel free to email me for information on contributions.
  7. I have ventured back into the world of meat eating with minimal meat eating.  I haven’t jumped back in full throttle, other than eating that steak for breakfast on Easter morning (I just had steak no eggs).  Kinda disappointment in myself since I expected more from my stomach; but at this point I have decided to hold off reintroducing the hard stuff until after my vacation (only eating chicken on special occasions i.e. whenever I’m not cooking).
  8. I had a dream I was Emily Owens from the CW show (which I have never actually seen, only previews).  It was weird and I was crying during my shift because one of the other doctors was mean to me. Jackass!!!!
  9. What is the shelf life on hard boiled eggs? After you boil them, how long can the sit??? I ate one yesterday that may have been questionable but I just didn’t care.  PAUSE According to USDA’s Egg Storage Chart (factsheet) I can refrigerate hard boiled eggs for 1 week! So that egg was questionable, oh well, it tasted fine.
  10. I got my hair done and it feels silky smooth. I touch it a lot more right after a visit to the salon. I don’t care if that makes me weird I like how soft it feels.
Well I guess my break is over!  Have a great day everyone!

Time is up...

To New Orleans and Back

I am back from my mini-Easter vacation!!!  My first road trip with the Man of Steel and my dad was a success.  Celebrating one of my favorite holidays with my family and good food is something I can’t capture in words. What I can do is share some of the nuggets of goodness that continue to bring me joy from this weekend trip.

Road Trip – my Dad is the greatest (like ever) and he decided this trip he was going to play backseat driver.  He wanted to be chauffeured (driving Mr. Daisy style) so that is what happened.  That way he was able to be in my fiancée’s ear the entire time.  My favorite reoccurring line was “why are you doing that, you shouldn’t get in this lane…well let me be quiet, cause I’m not driving” Either way my dad also imparted quite a bit of historical knowledge on us. For a man that planned to sleep and rest he actually talked for 6 of the 7 hours we drove (coming and going).  The man has lived an adventurous life; I’m actually surprised I turned out so responsible (pretty sure that was my mom and her goody two-shoes karma). Other facts I learned: 95% of our road trips involve rain, my dad supports peeing in nature’s bathroom (the woods) instead of gas stations, dogs are fair game for kidnapping, Alabama has been under construction since the 70s, Missouri is not for me, and Thailand has the best "herbs"!

Living History – my grandmother (in all her 91 year old glory) shared so many great stories with me during my trip.  I was educated to the importance of marriage and how to make one work! I was also informed about the tradition of a Hope Chest (which I apparently will be receiving since I am newly engaged). I learned a little bit of this and whole lot of that, including the magnificence of Johnnie Walker Red, a fine whiskey indeed.

Gross streets of New Orleans – sure the food is great and the nightlife is 24hrs but NOLA is no place for the weak of stomach!  We decided to stay downtown and get our tourist on, what we found were blood stains, vomit, and the health hazards galore. Dear girls walking around without shoes aside from the dangers of broken glass and rusty nails, people pee and barf on the street, so put something on your damn feet. You would be surprised how many folks were not wearing shoes!

Family Fun – I love my family and they bring me such joy. From my tell it like it is grandma to my aunts and uncle, who are hysterical.  The only people I know that can cuss each other out in love, talk politics and religion (while watching King of Kings), then turn around and teach you the art of grilling and the proper way to drink liquor.  A well read, well versed group of nuts that welcome any challenge. We had several generations of Cordier’s all at one house and it was epic!!!

Evolution of the Easter egg hunt – apparently times have seriously changed. When I was kid you were lucky if your Easter egg contained candy. You were also lucky to not get poison ivy while hunting for them. At the Easter egg hunt we held this weekend, the eggs were stuffed with money (dollar dollar bills ya’ll).  Then somebody lost a bracelet and offered a $10 cash reward to whichever kid could find it! Thanks for setting the bar too high family, I don’t want to have to maintain this expectation of cashing in at family functions in the future (family time is painful and free, check the history books).

Who are you? - Meeting and re-meeting family you haven’t seen in years is always fun. For the record telling me "that’s your cousin" doesn’t exactly explain the family connection. Especially in New Orleans where cousins can be blood related or come by way of marriage, relationships, or street convo. Who’s your daddy (or momma)? That is the only way to tell who you belong to!

Drinking – I still love drive through daiquiris shops. That’s all I can really say about that! Dad I wasn’t drinking or driving (not simultaneously I mean). I did drive, then drink but never at the same time or in reverse order. I did however drink and walk because New Orleans lets you do that!

Invest in a pick-em-up truck - the streets in New Orleans are terrible. You feel like you constantly have a flat tire or that you may have run over a drunken body. Eventually the paranoia subsides and you realize why everybody drives trucks; to combat the streets and to tow grills of course.  I felt like I needed to invest. LC truck driver coming at you *honk honk*!

All in all, we had a great trip. We have some business collaborations in the works and plans to do it all again sometime soon. I love holiday weekends!!!!
